چکیده

Objective: To demonstrate the advantages and oncological safety of submental flap.
 Study Design: Case series.
Place Duration Study: Department Plastic Reconstructive Study, Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi, Multan Peshawar Pakistan, from Jul 2014 to May 2020.
Methodology: Twenty patients underwent flap reconstruction with a flap. The were diagnosed squamous cell carcinoma, basal carcinoma verrucous at different sites head neck. Only no cervical lymph node metastasis included.
Results: We operated total 20 patients, out which 11 (55%) male 9 (45%) female. mean age was 62.75 years (range: 47-80 years). Thirteen (65%) Squamous 5 (25%) Basal 2 (10%) Verrucous on histopathology. Two reported back regional recurrence given postoperative radiotherapy. One (5%) patient had complete loss while distal tip necrosis.
Conclusion: In carefully selected cases is viable option, without risk occult metastasis.

The submental island flap in lingual cancer reconstruction

Purpose: Large defects resulting from surgical excision of oral cancer require various kinds of flap to reconstruct the defect. Therefore the aim of this study is to assess the application potentials of submental island flap in lingual cancer. Methods: Over the 3 years, submental island flap has been studied in a 13 cases of lingual cancer patients and follow-up was accordingly done. The sites,...

Submental island flap reconstruction reduces cost in oral cancer reconstruction compared to radial forearm free flap reconstruction: a case series and cost analysis

BACKGROUND In Canada, 4,400 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed yearly. Surgical resection is a key component of treatment in many of these cancers. Reconstruction of defects, with the goal of preserving function, is of utmost importance. Several choices are possible for reconstruction of larger defects, including both free and pedicled flaps. Free flap reconstruction is reliable and effective, ...

Submental flap as an alternative to microsurgical flap in intraoral post-oncological reconstruction in the elderly.

Oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (Scc) occur most commonly in middle-aged and elderly individuals. Free flaps are commonly used for reconstruction of extensive tumor resection defects in the oral cavity. Age alone is not an independent variable for increased risk in microvascular reconstruction; however operative time and ASA risk score correlated with medical complications but no...

Nasolabial flap reconstruction in oral cancer

BACKGROUND The nasolabial flap is a simple flap used for reconstructing small intraoral defects created after the excision of malignant tumors. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 26 cases of oral cancer treated with primary excision and nasolabial flap reconstruction was carried out. In 22 cases, the excision was combined with neck dissection and facial artery ligation. RESULTS Good cosmet...
